Get It Out Of Your System

What do you do when inspiration is lacking? Maybe it isn’t even lacking. Maybe it just isn’t directed at what you need to do at the moment.

I’ve been sitting at my desk trying to write a blog for a while and have not been able to generate any ideas that I find interesting enough to write about. I’ve read several blogs, which indicate that I should continue to read more blogs and an idea will eventually come. Instead, art I recently saw in galleries at the Shops of 505 in Maui are flashing through my mind.

These galleries had amazing photographs and art that made me want to jump into a design project. The art inspired me to take pictures, draw, and paint—it even made me want to go as far as learning how to carve into metal and use acid on a design.

Chris De Rubeis, Peter Lik, and Christian Lassen created some of the most inspiring pieces I’ve ever seen. Nothing compares to seeing the art and photography in person, but I still love looking through their online galleries. All I’ve been able to think of as I’ve struggled to write this blog is how much I want to share their work with people who have not been lucky enough to experience it themselves.

Ideas don’t flow all the time, and I finally decided to write about the galleries and get it out of my system. Sometimes you need to give yourself time and read other people’s blogs, or look at other people’s designs. Other times you need write what is on your mind so that you can move on to your next great idea.
